being able to insert signitures in board posts

Well after being on here for months I finally was able to use the signiture option in PMs. I was wondering if it'd be possible to allow all members to insert their sigs that they have in PMs to be able to show them off via board posts? As on another website they have sigs turned on and I must say some members have catchy signitures. All it does is to dress up their posts to personalize it. Some people just post their names, some post a phrase or sentence, some with lyrics, bible quotes, website urls I mean endless possibilities. So I want to suggest this feature because I think it's really cool to use.

Also, how do you work signatures in PM's? Do you check the checkbox that says append them, or uncheck it, for your signature to be added? Lol sorry. Caitlin

Go to your PM box, click on Mail Preferences and you'll see a empty box for sigs. Put whatever you want and then save your work. When you create a new message the box is automatically checked so that your sig is inserted in your email. Just send yourself a test email to make sure it looks ok before using it.

I'm really not sure what I think of this idea. It seems to me that signitures are the kind of thing you enjoy reading once or twice, but not over and over again.
If this feature were to be added, I wonder if it would be possible to have the viewing of them turned off and on by each user. If this kind of individual customization isn't possible, maybe it could be set up in such a way that each poster's signiture is shown only once per topic. So a poster would get their sig on the first message they posted on a topic, but it wouldn't be on subsequent messages in that thread.

It's standard practice on many sites... there could be something like a limit of characters (which there already is for posts) and it wouldn't be that hard anyway to do with PHP since all you have to do is fish out the signature from the database or whatever, of coursee there would be an option in the account settings to display the sigs under each of your posts or on top or wherever you want it. I don't think that it would be that annoying since on the other sites it doesn't seem to be that big a problem anyway.

I agree with WJ; there should be a feature to ignore signatures, if one gets tired of them. Caitlin

Thanks for the ideas. This one's on the list, along with the rest of the board changes planned for the first part of 05.

Cool, and, I know this is in another topic, but, for the buddylist, maybe there could be a thing that allows people to view or not view certain signatures? I don't know...
